Ethernet is emerging as the Layer 2 Protocol of choice in Enterprise, Access and Metro
Networks. This is due to its cost effectiveness, wide spread acceptance and ease of use. The
Envoy-CE2 provides a means to connect a cost efficient, switching protocol interface in
Ethernet to a Telecom based interface, the OIF SPI-3. Current network processing devices
that traditionally have a packet based interface the OIF SPI-3 interface, can now interface to
Ethernet based devices using the Envoy-CE2.
