A perfect crimp connection produces a permanent
electrical and mechanical bond between the cop-
per cable and the crimp contact.
During crimping, the crimping tool stresses the
copper cable strands, breaking-up any poor con-
ductive surface layers and preventing the penetra-
tion of any corrosive materials for the lifetime of the
crimp connection.
Even severe operating conditions such as tempe-
rature cycling, vibration, or aggressive atmosphe-
res cannot affect the gas-tight connection.
An additional advantage is that crimped cable
looms can be produced by relatively lower skilled
technicians away from the application. This makes
the use of crimp connections one of the most flexi-
ble and cost-effective solutions available.
The quality of the crimp is dependant on the crim-
ping tool. Only crimping tools with a ratchet
locking device produce a consistent crimp result.
A ratchet tool only releases the crimped cable after
the required crimp form has been produced.
Non ratchet tools however rely on the consistency
of the operator, and after many crimping opera-
tions the crimp quality cannot be guaranteed.
