Dear Valued Customer,
We regret to inform you that Molex has recently received a declaration of Force Majeure from a major
polyester resin supplier. This declaration takes effect immediately and claims that the Force Majeure event will
severely impact the resin supplier’s ability to deliver the polyester resin to its customers through the end of
2010. As a result, Molex is receiving a significant reduction of the raw material needed to fulfill our customer
needs on specific connectors. Connectors affected include the Micro-Fit plug and receptacle series listed
below, as well as on the part number list on page three.
Fortunately, Molex has previously tested and qualified an alternate nylon resin in the listed product families.
This effort began approximately three years ago to accommodate customer requests for Halogen Free and
Glow Wire (IEC 60335) compliancy.
Due to the urgency of the situation, Molex has limited options. Rather than limit or refuse customer orders on
traditional polyester parts, Molex has chosen to keep continuity of supply and provide customers with parts
manufactured in the alternate improved material.
Molex will begin incorporating the alternate resin on traditional part numbers effective immediately. Many part
numbers will be produced using the alternative nylon resin beginning August 28
and scope of this change it is expected that it may take up to 6 months to make the complete transition to the
new material. In order to maintain continuity of supply Molex will keep existing part numbers, however Molex
will be identifying all product manufactured with nylon by use of green dots or green colored labels on the
internal shipping bags as well as green dots on the shipping carton (see page two examples). Molex will use
this labeling system until the conversion to Nylon is complete. If you require an actual conversion date on a
specific Microfit part number, please contact me and I will advise you, as soon as it has been determined.
This change will affect the following Molex Microfit engineering series. Please see attached for a complete list
of Microfit part numbers:
