Description
The mat of this kit is made of a sturdy two-layer vinyl cloth; the black side is conductive to < 10
ohm per square, the light blue side is static dissipative at < 10
approximately 610 x 610mm. A PCB wrapped in the mat is shielded against electrostatic fields. The
mat has two pockets, each approximately 300 mm wide by 200 mm deep. A 10mm male press stud is
mounted in a corner of each pocket. The mat is designed to allow grounding of wristbands through
the mat. It retains its electrical properties, offers good resistance to abrasion and tear and remains
useable down to minus 20
The kit includes a 1.5m long straight ground cord code J4619 fitted with an in-built 1 MΩ resistor and
crocodile clip, an adjustable wristband code JA48R and a coiled ground cord code J4222 fitted with
two in-built 1 MΩ resistors.
The kit complies with CECC 00-015 Part 1 1991. It is held in an antistatic pouch approximately 300
x 200 x 25 mm. The whole kit weighs a modest 400 g which adds to its popularity amongst service
engineers.

Lay the mat out with the studs facing upward.
Connect one end of the straight cord to a stud and the other end to Earth.
Wear the wristband snugly around the wrist and use the coiled cord to connect it to the
other stud on the mat.
If possible test the overall resistance to earth of the engineer. It should be
approximately 3 MΩ but certainly ≥ 0.75 ≤ 35 MΩ.
Do not clean the mat with solvents. Use Vermason bench mat cleaner or a mild
detergent and water.
PCBs may be safely stored for transport in the pockets. Alternatively, the wristband
and cords as well as other small tools can be kept therein.
