1. Sensors
Thesensorcontainsalltheelectronics,theamplifier
andthemechanicalinterfacetothefiber.Somemodels
aresealedandratedIP67tomountdirectlyona
machine;othersaredesignedtobeDIN-railmountedin
acentralizedcontrolenclosure.
2. Fibers
Sensingfibersarenon-electronic,light-transmitting,
optical-qualityglassorplasticstrandsencasedin
claddingthatreflectslighttothecore.Fiberstransmit
and/orreceivelightfromtheLEDofasensor.Glass
fibersarearrangedinbundles,andplasticfibersare
typicallypackagedasmonofilamentswithaprotective
jacketofpolyethylene,PVC,stainless-steelbraidor
othermaterial.Fibersensingtipshaveawidevarietyof
shapesandconfigurations.
