Military bases requiring PKI (Public Key

Infrastructure)

Problem

Retro-fit of compliant smart card readers to

300,000 desktops across worldwide bases

would require enormous admin expense.

IT Admin installing drivers at 300,000 desktops

x 15 minutes = 75,000 manhours.

Solution

Cherry adjusted the drivers for ST-1000 and

ST-1044 smart card readers to achieve

compatibility with the Microsoft SMS in use by

military branch. This enabled military branch

admins to push out drivers and instructions

from servers to desktops.

Result

Despite a slightly higher unit price vs.

competition, the value of Cherry’s longer

warranty and labor-saving software

adjustment made the Cherry smart card

readers the technology of choice for this

military branch roll-out.

The FIPS201 compliant ST-1044 is the

successor to Cherry’s ST-1000
