Voltage ratings of terminal blocks are based on the minimum spacing between electrical conductive parts of opposite
polarity or between an electrically conductive part and a metal mounting surface measured under two conditions: Through
Air, defined as the distance an arc must take through the air to go from one live conductor to another or from a live
conductor to ground; and Over Surface, defined as the distance an arc must take over a surface of the insulating material
going from one terminal to ground, assuming the arc will travel along the surface rather than through the air. The following
chart shows UL 1059 spacing requirements in inches.
