LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are opto-semiconduc-
tors that convert electric energy into light energy.
Compared to laser diodes, LEDs offer advantages
such as lower cost and longer service life.
HAMAMATSU mainly provides high-power, near in-
frared LEDs for diverse applications including opti-
cal switches. Types with a skillfully designed opti-
cal lens are used as light sources for high-
precision encoders. Types with a reflector struc-
ture utilizing light emitted from the LED chip edges
serve as light sources for spatial light transmis-
sion.
