Profibus DP is a fieldbus meeting industrial communication requirements.
Profibus DP uses a master/slave centralized access procedure. Only master
stations, sometimes called active stations, have the right to access the bus, with
slave, or passive, stations being limited to responding to interrogations. The
physical link is a single shielded twisted pair, but optical interfaces are available for
creating tree, star or ring structures. In relation to the ISO model, only layers 1 and 2
are implemented, with access from the user interface being made directly onto the
link layer through simple mapping of variables.
Specific products called “segment couplers” or “links” are used to connect Profibus
DP and Profibus PA process instrumentation bus.
Profibus DP is configured using the Prosoft Configuration Builder software, supplied
with the module.
This software is used to generate a file containing the information relating to the
connected devices. This extension file is transferred into the PTQ-PDPMV1 module
via the serial port.
Integration into the software of FDT/DTM technologies makes it possible to
configure, adjust and perform diagnostics on a device using the application-specific
function provided by the manufacturer of the third-party device.
The Modicon Quantum automation platform, via the Prosoft Technology
PTQ-PDPMV1 module, acts as master on the Profibus DP V1 bus.
