Terminology
Some specific words used in this User's Manual are defined as follows:
Emulation pod
An emulation pod is provided for each MCU family/series and it emulates the operation of each
MCU characteristic. There are two kinds of emulation method in the PC4701U system's emulation
pods. One is the emulator MCU method of equipping the tip of the emulation pod probe with emu-
lator MCU. The other is the evaluation MCU method of equipping the inside of the emulation pod
with evaluation MCU.
Emulator debugger
This means a software tool, M3T-PDxx to control the emulator PC4701U from a personal computer
through an interface.
The letter "xx" of the emulator debugger M3T-PDxx name varies with the types of MCUs matched.
Emulator MCU
An emulator MCU means an MCU for tools which are connected to the probe of the M38000TL2-
FPD emulation pod for 740 Family. For emulator MCUs, two types (RSS type of SDIP and RFS
type of LCC) are available.
Firmware
This means a program that controls the hardware of the PC4701U system by decoding the contents
of communication with the emulator debugger M3T-PDxx. This program is contained in EEPROM
on the emulator PC4701U's inside board.
At startup, the emulator debugger M3T-PDxx checks the configuration of the emulator PC4701U
and emulation pod, and downloads the appropriate firmware when it is necessary.
