The UART (Universal Asychronous Receiver Transmitter) is a serial I/O port for asynchronous (start-stop) com-
munication or clock-synchronous communication.
The UART has the following features :
• Full-duplex double buffering
• Capable of asynchronous (start-stop bit) and CLK-synchronous communications
• Support for the multiprocessor mode
• Various method of baud rate generation :
• Error detection functions (parity, framing, overrun)
• NRZ (Non Return to Zero) signal format
• Interrupt request :
- External clock input possible
- Internal clock (a clock supplied from 16-bit reload timer can be used)
- Embedded dedicated baud rate generator
- Receive interrupt (receive complete, receive error detection)
