Deciding the Antenna Installation Position
3. Do not place obstacles (especially metal objects) near the antennas.
4. Cable loss in magnet-base antennas
5. Cable bending radius for magnet-base antennas
6. Separate different sets of antennas as much as possible.
7. Do not install the 2 magnet-base antennas close to each other.
8. Install the antennas with the same orientation.
9. Separate the antennas from ID tags by at least 3m.
propagate more easily.
If there are obstacles near the antennas (in particular, in the direction of
radio wave propagation), the radio waves may not be propagated due to
the influence of the objects. Metal objects have the largest influence as
they reflect radio waves, whereas glass and plastic objects allow the waves
to pass through and so have the smallest influence. Ensure a distance of
at least 30cm between obstacles and antennas.
With magnet-base antennas (WD30-ME01/-SE01), there is loss in the 2m
antenna cable. This means that the maximum communications distance is
shorter than with the pencil antennas. As a rough guide, the maximum
communications distance is approximately 50m indoors.
The minimum bending radius for magnet-base antennas (WD30-ME01/
-SE01) is 38mm. Also, do not bend the cable at points less than 40mm
from the end connected to the station or at points less than 20mm from the
end connected to the antenna.
If different sets of antennas are close to each other, they will influence each
other and thereby influence wireless communications, causing an increase
in the number of retries and a reduction in the possible communications
distance. Separate different sets of antennas by at least 1m (at least 2m if
possible).
If the 2 antennas are close to each other, the diversity effect will not be uti-
lized. Separate the antennas by at least 62mm (as with pencil antennas).
Magnet-mounting allows the positions to be adjusted easily. If possible,
separate the antennas by a greater distance than this.
Install antennas that are performing communications with the same orien-
tation, as shown in the following diagram. If they are installed at an angle
of 90 to each other, the possible communications distance will be short-
ened. (In this case, the waves are said to be “polarized.”)
