3M’s Pipe Masking System is a cutback solution for the
ends of pipe that do not require coating. The different
tapes presently being used include 8902 (Automotive
Div), 2396 (Industrial Tape Div Brazil) and 2364
(Industrial Tape Div U.S.). Some applications also include
the use of high temperature masking paper such as
BR4000 (Automotive Div Brazil). Products used must
resist the conditions of the coating process such as high
temperature, fast cooling, contact with chemicals, etc.
DP3041 dispenser shown above, which
automatically applies tape to masking paper,
is from the Automotive Div (Brazil). Typical
tape width is 19mm and 150mm for paper.
This pipe masking system eliminates the time-consuming
and costly steps involved in removing coating that
impedes the welding process.
