The GRAYSCALE command selects the gray scale depth, in bits-per-pixel (bpp), when
indirect addressing is used. The values from REG[20h] are passed as parameters when the
GRAYSCALE command is issued. For further information on the GRAYSCALE
command, see Section 11.1.12, “GRAYSCALE” on page 75.
Bit-Per-Pixel Select bits [1:0]
These bits select the bit-per-pixel mode as follows. If the CGRAM is used (includes
CGRAM1 and CGRAM2), only 1 bpp is supported.
When a graphics screen and a graphics screen with Gray Scale enabled are overlaid,
both layers must be configured for the same color depth. For example, if the first layer is
2 bpp, the second layer must also be set for 2 bpp.
The horizontal character size (REG[01h] bits 3-0) must be set to 7h and the Horizontal
Pixel Scroll bits (REG[1Bh] bits 2-0) must be set to 0.
