If the link partner is not capable of auto-negotiation, it transmits either 10 Mbps Normal Link
Pulses (NLP) or 100 Mbps Idle symbols. When the LXT970A Transceiver detects either NLPs or
Idle symbols, it automatically configures to match the detected operating speed in half-duplex
mode. This ability allows the LXT970A Transceiver to communicate with devices that do not
support auto-negotiation.
Controlling Auto-Negotiation
When auto-negotiation is controlled by software, the following steps are recommended:
