The Atmel ATmega16HVB/32HVB features a highly accurate low power On-chip Bandgap Ref-
erence Voltage, VREF of 1.100V. This reference voltage is used as reference for the On-chip
Voltage Regulator, the Brown-out Detector, the internal Cell Balancing, the Battery Protection,
the V-ADC and the CC-ADC.

In addition to the Bandgap Reference Voltage, the Voltage Reference includes a Calibration Unit
that enables run time calibration of the Reference Voltage, an On-chip temperature sensor for
monitoring the die temperature, and a Bandgap Short Detector to detect short circuit conditions
on the external VREF pin for highest safety.
When the device is in power-off state, the Voltage Reference will be switched off. After a Power-
on reset condition the Voltage Reference will automatically be enabled.
