16.9.22.3 UNDERSTANDING ETHERNET ON THE MPC823. You are encouraged to
learn about the basic functionality of the serial communication controllers and the overall
architecture of the communication processor module before delving into the functionality of
the SCCs in Ethernet mode. It is important that first-time users of the MPC823 who plan to
use Ethernet read the following sections of this manual first.
16.9.22.4 CONNECTING THE MPC823 TO THE EEST. The interface to the external
EEST chip consists of the following Ethernet pins:
• Section 12.3 Interrupt Configuration contains an overview of the MPC823 interrupt
• Section 16.2 The RISC Microcontroller, Section 16.2 The RISC Microcontroller,
• Section 16.5 The SDMA Channels explains how SDMA channels are used to transfer
• Section 16.7.8 Nonmultiplexed Serial Interface Configuration explains how clocks
• Section 16.9.22 The SCCx in Ethernet Mode explains how to program an SCCx in
• Section 16.14 The Parallel I/O Ports explains how to configure the preferred Ethernet
• Section 16.15 The CPM Interrupt Controller defines the interrupt priority of a serial
• Receive clock (RCLK)—The CLK1, CLK2, CLK3, or CLK4 pin that is routed through the
• Transmit clock (TCLK)—The CLK1, CLK2, CLK3, or CLK4 pin that is routed through the
• Transmit data (TXDx)—The MPC823 TXD2 or TXD3 pin.
• Receive data (RXDx)—The MPC823 RXD2 or RXD3 pin.

and Section 16.2.6.3 Dual-Port RAM explain how the RISC microcontroller issues
special commands to the Ethernet channel. The dual-port RAM loads Ethernet
parameters and initializes buffer descriptors for the Ethernet channel to use.

bank of clocks on the MPC823. RCLK and TCLK must not be connected to the same
CLKx pin since the EEST provides a separate receive and transmit clock signal.
