Checksum Calculation
The checksum byte for a series of bytes of data is calculated by adding the bytes together, dropping
the carries, and taking the two’s complement of the total sum. The controller must perform the same
checksum operation in transmitting checksum bytes.
Example) Assume the upper and lower bytes of the sum as 0xE5 and 0xF6. To calculate the
checksum for a series of 0xE5 and 0xF6:
Add the bytes together
Take the two’s complement of the sum, and that is the checksum byte.
0xE5 + 0xF6 = 0x1DB
0 − 0xDB = 0x25
